Workshop to assess the policy and practice of Forest Land Allocation held in Ha Noi

Viet Nam - 15 May, 2012

On April 10th, 2012, TBI Viet Nam, with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), conducted a workshop in Ha Noi entitled, “Forestry Land Allocation: Policy and Practice.” The event was held in cooperation with the Department of Science, Technology and Environment (under MARD) and the Institute of Forest Planning and Inventory (FIPI).

The main objective of the workshop was to evaluate the impacts of FLA, including the achievements and difficulties faced during the initial implementation, and hold discussion sessions on how to improve forest and forestry land management. This objective was achieved through presentations that were led by forest policy and management employees and researchers, and the question and answer sessions that followed. At the end of the workshop, it was acknowledged that the instructions created by the in-charge agencies that manage FLA do not meet the requirements of the local people. Several issues and tasks need to be taken into consideration in order to change efforts to improve FLA. These considerations, as well as more detailed workshop information, are listed in the FLA workshop report.
