Ghana’s charcoal commodity chain soon to receive more attention

The charcoal commodity chain in Ghana will soon receive a lot of attention through a collaborative effort between University of Copenhagen (UC) Denmark, University of Ghana (UG), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Tropenbos International Ghana (TBI Ghana). This will happen because the Danish Government has given out and amount of USD1,415,000 for a new project titled - “Property, access and exclusion along the charcoal commodity chain in Ghana” simply called the AX project.

TBI Indonesia Staff Appointed as Chairman of the HCVNI’s Executive Board

The High Conservation Value Network Indonesia (HCVNI) was established in April 2011 as a response to the increasing concerns in Indonesia regarding the absence of an entity to improve and to share the knowledge and skills that could eventually improve the quality of HCV assessments. From October 2014, Kresno D. Santoso of Tropenbos International Indonesia has been appointed as the Chairman of the Executive Board of HCVNI. He will hold the position for the period of 2014-2017.

The principal Prins Claus award given to the Colombian artist and plant expert Abel Rodríguez is a recognition of the value of traditional knowledge for the conservation of the culture and habitat of indigenous communities. According to Tropenbos International, the organization that supported the work of Rodríguez, the award contributes to the self-esteem of, often marginalized, indigenous communities in the Amazon region and strengthens their role in the conservation of forests.
